What the heck is this?

This plant showed up in our front garden area this year. We don't know what it is or where it came from. Whoever can identify it will win some free rhubarb.

Notice the fat buds. They only open in the morning. In the afternoon the whole plant looks a little wilted.
The flowers are really delicate looking.
It's all spread out on the bottom. It's actually fairly large. It comes up in tiers. You can't really tell from the picture.

If no one identifies it, but you still want rhubarb, just let me know.

That is weird! Where in the heck do you live? I am trying to spy on people in the ward to find out where everybody is and you are a hard one to find. Just kidding i am really not that weird but are you up by me or down by the church?

I was pretty sure it was a poppy when you showed me the picture and then with the additional clue of closing in late afternoon I'm almost 100% positive. Here's a link to show how much it looks like a poppy. If it walks like a poppy it probably is a poppy. Sorry I am in the weirdest mood ever! http://www.seedman.com/poppy.htm

Katie - I live down by the church. I live next door to the bishop, if you know where that is. In the circle park area.

Jen - I think you are right. I never knew that there were so many different kinds of poppies. Do you want some rhubarb?

I want rhubarb!
Even if I had no idea what that plant was.

Very pretty, whatever it is! I would love some rhubarb! My mom has the best strawberry rhubarb pie recipe and I'd love to try it out on my uninitiated boys.

I want rhubarb too!!! That's a funny plant... the plant looks like a weed but the flower is so pretty. Poppies are wildflowers, so that could be it. I'll take a closer look when I come to pick up my rhubarb. ;)

Looks like a weed to me. But what do I know?

It looks like a venice mallow weed, but I'm not certain. Would need to see the leaf shape and compare flower shots. I used to love rhubarb; before the sugar-free diet.
