We saw Cloverfield on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. It was a fun, scary ride. I was worried about the camera work. It's all filmed with a hand held camera. I thought it was going to make me sick to watch it, because I'm an old lady that doesn't have the tolerance for movement that I once did. Surprisingly it didn't bother me after the first few minutes. I thought that it was scary in it's realness. What is real about a giant creature tearing apart Manhattan you ask? Well, not much. The realness that I am talking about is the fact that the characters are just trying to save their friend and survive. They aren't super commandos or scientists or anything like that. They aren't trying to figure out why this is happening or how to kill the creature. They just want to be alive tomorrow. Their relationships felt real and their fear felt real. It's not the best movie of all time, but if your looking for a good tense time this is the movie for you.
