Good Laughs & Ghosts of the Past

I received this inspiration from my friend, Kristen. Then my friend, Jenny, asked if I had any pictures of us as kids. I don't have very many photos of my own from my youth. My mom has most that are pre-high school. Herein are some good laughs and some moments in time that attest to my extreme coolness.

1986-This picture is when I was 12. l-r Jenny Hoover, Bobby Capener, me, Brandi Robison. So funny. That guy is a BYU basketball player that came for some sort of ward activity. We were in total awe. I think this picture is pretty perfect in showing our respective styles at the time. Jenny - pretty casual, always ready for real playing. Me - older sisters that were stylish so I borrowed their style and some clothes(the tie). Brandi - most popular brands, Esprit.

1999-This picture was taken the last day of jr. high. l-r Jenny Hoover, Erica Thompson, me. We went to the mall after we got out of school. We went to spend our refund. I never thought of it as my parents $. I guess I thought I worked hard and deserved whatever $ the school was going to give me. Yes, I do have small baby claw bangs going on there.

1990-This is Homecoming of my junior year with Brandon Poduska(sp?). Funny story here. The Friday before the dance my dad had some extra tickets to the BYU football game the next day. He said I could have them. I asked my date if we had any day date plans for the next day. He said no. I promptly turned around and told my friend, Carolanne that she and I could go to the game. It never crossed my mind to see if my date wanted to go. I ended up getting a sunburn and getting home 15 minutes before he was to pick me up. Needless to say no shower or makeup. I think my dress was made out of upholstery fabric. Yes, I do have some sort of scraggly perm going on.

1992-This is graduation day. This is Dave Jacobs. I went to jr. high with him, but his high school graduated right after mine, so I ran into him. If any of you have seen the LDS video "On The Way Home," you saw him. He plays the son/brother. He was also in another LDS film in the very early 80's about a family who's young son gets hit by a car while he's carrying his fish to school. My famous friend.

1992-There's so many things about this picture that just screams coolness. #1 - My friend Julia. I was working at Jacob Lake near the Grand Canyon in AZ. the summer after high school. We were split into girls and guys dorms. We would do raids on each other. Usually they are really mean things, but this year we were doing nice-ish things. We dressed in black, put cat make-up on and broke into the guys dorm in the middle of the night blasting Janet Jackson's Black Cat. Also, you can feel the mighty power of the fly-ness of my Dick Tracy midnight showing t-shirt. Yes, I paid for it and actually saw the first showing. Now I fall asleep just thinking about going to a 9pm movie, let alone midnight.

1993-This is when I graduated from Ricks. My friend and roommate, Marissa. I got this lovely corsage as a gift from my parents for graduation. My brother is going to Hawaii with his wife and kids and my parents for his graduation gift from my parents. I do like the corsage, it's beautiful. I'm not upset about Hawaii. I just got my associates degree and my brother is graduating from medical school. The gifts increase exponentially. So I just need to get my Doctorate and maybe my parents will give me a nice trip somewhere.

1994-Here you go. Proof that I know the coolest people. l-r Gary Ishmael, me and Kenneth Rawlings. I think I don't look super happy because someone put ice down my back. I'm a poor loser because if you look closely you will see that Kenneth's collar is stretched from me putting ice down his back. Ahh, such funny kids. We are at a Friendly's Restaurant in Ohio.

Well, I hope you enjoyed taking this trip with me down memory lane. Feel free to express how cool you think I am/was. You may also feel free to tell me the truth.;-)

So, were you and Kenneth married already by then? Or what's the story? How did you know gary?

Anyway - thanks for sharing!

We were still just dating then. Gary and Kenneth were in the same ward and became instant friends when Kenneth got back from his mission. Gary was our best man and Kenneth was his. So sweet. It's really fun for us to have them so close.

You know that we are paying for the Hawaii trip, right?! They gave us a week to use at Park City (only after we asked for one) and we tried our luck at switching it to Hawaii. They have 7 more weeks, so ask away!!

And the pics are priceless. I especially love the socks and black flats in the first one. :) MA

Trust me the socks and flats were very cool back in the day. You can tell because my super trendy friend next to me is wearing them as well.

You guys are paying for the whole trip? I did not know that. That's pretty amazing. I promise I wasn't bitter. I understand that the medical school graduate deserved something a little better than a corsage. Maybe the medical school graduate's wife can broker a deal for a corsage though.

I was sure you weren't bitter (I mean, that WAS a really nice corsage) and we don't mind being teased. Yeah, we are footing the bill - I guess I should say Uncle Marnie is footing the bill - thanks! I'm not sure where the "we are giving this to J & MA for graduation" got started, but I'm okay with it as long as all the sibs know the details. :)

I agree with Kristen, you look totally like Sophia in that first picture! Awesome pictures! I always aspired to the claw bangs but never perfected the art, so I hold you in the highest regard for that achievement!

I love that my chubby cheeks got in that picture. I thought I was way cool...how sad. I think I wore those jeans everyday...again, so sad. :) Thanks for the pictures...they are FUNNY! Jenny

That is awesome. I can't believe how much Sophia looks like you in the first picture. You have some AWESOME hair going on! The claw is one of my personal faves.

You are SO cute!!! Love the pictures! I totally think the first picture is a carbon copy of Sophia, I mean that Sophia is a carbon copy of you at that age. Wow I am really dating myself from that whole carbon copy analogy. Yikes!
