Blind Dates

So this past weekend, after months of trying, we set up Kenneth's sister with a friend's cousin. We all got together on Saturday and had a very enjoyable time. The set up couple are both wonderful, nice, good looking people. Was there a match? Who knows, and only time will tell. I can see that they could be friends for sure. Anyway, I am looking for some great stories. What was your worst/best set up? Was it easy? The most painful? Funnest? Crappiest? I want the details. So spill!

Here's mine. I had friends that dated a lot and of course being good friends they wanted me to date as well. So I was set up on dates more than once in high school. I don't know that it's ever really comfortable. In high school it's more of a "is my friend available", rather than, "would these people be good together." The experiences were never horrible, but never great. The saddest was for Preference my senior year. It's girls choice. That right there should tell you how sad this is. I could not get a date. I asked one guy early, but he said no and I was so embarrassed that I couldn't make myself ask anyone else until the week of the dance. My usual friend, fall-back-guy, had been asked by one of the other girls in my group. Needless to say, most guys already had dates by that time. So it was a lot of rejection that week, but it wasn't so bad because I only really liked the first guy. So it gets to Saturday, the day of the dance, and I still have no date. Dinner was going to be at my house and everything. That's pretty much the story of my life, I'm a last minute girl. It's my super power. My friend was getting her nails done that day and told the tech doing her nails the sad story of me. Well, the nail tech. had a younger brother that was available for that night. Lucky me. I don't remember how he got to my house. I don't remember picking him up. He was a year younger than me and with my heels on slightly shorter. He wasn't bad looking, I think. He said that I looked familiar and he knew he must have seen my around. He went to the cross town high school. He was a nice kid, it was just the whole sadness of the situation. It was just a night of shame and embarrassment for me. Of course I ran into the guy that I had originally asked at the dance. I was glad that I was standing next to my friend's date when I saw him so that he didn't see who I was really with. There was a lot of uncomfortable silences and no eye contact dancing. We ended up taking him home right after the dance and then I went and hung out with all the other couples and played games. I don't remember his name. I was to say that it was Dave, but it might be Matt.

There you go, nothing too horrible. I hope that you guys have something better to share. I'm looking for some really juicy stories. Let the fun begin.

Hmm, I don't think I have anything too juicy, but I do have one.

My worst blind date was with a guy in my ward in college. Not bad looking, supposedly funny, but utterly lacking in social skills. I was wearing a sweater with horizontal stripes across the front and he asked me, "Is that supposed to make your chest look bigger or something?" I think my jaw just dropped as I looked at him like he was a totally insensitive moron, which apparently he was. That pretty much killed the night for me.

My worst was when I was a sophmore in high school. The dance was Bingham Ball (girls choice) and I had just barely turned 16. I had a couple of friends that were going and wanted me to be in there group. I wanted to go but didn't really have anyone in mind I was dying to go with. They thought it would be great if they set me up with one of there friends. So they talked to him and told him that I was going to be asking him. So like a week before the dance I asked him. He said yes. I still cringe when I think about that whole day. I can't remember what activity we did, all I remember is dinner and the dance. Dinner was awkward. He knew my friends so he spent all night talking with them. Not that I made much of an effort to talk to him. Then the dance AWKWARD!!! I remember dancing a few times and he was singing along to the slow songs in my ear. Weird!! Anyways after that I think we were both done with the date so we took him home. I was ready to walk him up and thank him for going with me, but he stopped me as I was getting out and said I didn't need to go any further he high fived me. Yep I got a high five. Talk about humiliating. I'm embarassed just thinking about it. After that I decided I would choose who I dated and not let my friends do it for me.

Mine was probably with a guy who came home from his mission early. Nuff' said.

My friends boyfriend had a good friend that they wanted to set up with me. They came to pick me up, and when I looked out the peep hole he had his finger on it...I don't know why, but it really bugged me. He was a nice guy, but it was a really long night!
