I have been on losing teams for the past year. It seemed like everything I supported was "shot down in a blaze of glory." (Bon Jovi anyone?)
I supported Referendum One for school vouchers in November. I thought that people would be concerned about their children's education and research the issue, but most people voted according to commercial scare tactics.
Next, I actually registered Republican just so I could vote for Ron Paul in March. I know he is a radical, what with defending the constitution and all, but I still decided to make my vote count. Well, it didn't count for much.
Moving on to April. I was petitioning for our charter school to allow striped shirts instead of just solid shirts. I am a radical. The board took it personally that we would question them and we were summarily dismissed. Now let's look to May. I attended the Republican State Convention and was so disappointed by the close voting that ended with Jason Chaffetz receiving 59.1%, requiring a primary. I felt pretty beat up politically after that. I was mad enough after the convention though to contact the Chaffetz campaign and volunteer. I didn't do much, especially since I was sick for Pony Express days and was supposed to help in the booth and then walk in the parade. I did neither. What I did do was put a sign in my yard and pass out doorknob flyers with my wonderful children. I hope my efforts made a difference. What I do know is that Jason Chaffetz won and I am officially part of the winning team. I'm so happy I could weep.
