I am an opening night movie kind of girl. I was very upset by the fact that we were going to have to wait to see The Dark Knight because we were leaving for Oregon. However, I am also a quality theater girl. We wanted to see it in IMAX and they don't exist in southern Oregon. I just want everyone to know how fortunate we are to have Larry H. Miller in Utah, because the man knows quality entertainment. Now, to the movie. I had heard it was dark. What does dark mean exactly? That it mostly happens at night? Well, that's true, it is Batman after all. How about, that there's a lot of black? Also true, again, Batman. I think what most people mean is that it is not the feel good film of the summer, that there is violence, disturbing themes and images. There's no real happy ending to be had here.
Don't get me wrong, I loved this movie. It is amazing, but yeah, it's dark. Heath Ledger as the Joker is amazing. Did I say that he was amazing? I mean that he was AMAZING! I never saw Heath Ledger as himself the whole time, he was the Joker. The Joker had some interesting things to say about human nature. Heath played him as the psychopath, purely evil type, not the jokester, little crazy type. You are seriously scared of this guy, except then he's funny and you feel really bad for laughing because he is so wrong.
It was a long movie. It almost felt like two movies in one. Seeing it on the IMAX was super cool. I would recommend this movie to all comic book lovers and those that like a good crime drama and a lot of action. The Batman story is overall darker than some of the other popular comic book films, i.e. Spider-man, and Iron Man. My only complaint was that there wasn't enough Bruce Wayne moments. Christian Bale was in the batsuit way too much.

I'm excited to see this one. I've heard Heath Ledger was fantastic, and super creepy. We're going to try to catch it this weekend.
I'm a teensy weensy bit jealous of you movie-going types. I hope someday soon, I will be able to leave my house on dates again.
I really liked this one and was surprised that I wasn't too turned off by the 'darkness' of it.
Dave and I went to see it opening night and we liked it. As you said the joker is a little disturbing, but also kind of funny. I also agree Christian Bale was in the bat suit way too much. If he is going to get ripped to play in the movie, we've got to at least see a little more of it! :)
I loved this movie!!! I was the same way you were during the movie, there were times I wasn't sure if I should laugh because the Joker is psychotic. Definetely worth the extra couple of dollars to see it in the IMAX.
