I can't believe that it has been 5 years since Dylan was born. It is crazy. Youngest children are an interesting phenomenon. I can't help the way I feel about him and even though I try to treat him the way I would treat the other kids it's pretty impossible. I've always had a baby around the time the others were 2 so they had to grow up then and could no longer be babies, but Dylan didn't have that. It's amazing to me how he still seems so little, but when Ian was 5 I thought he was so grown up. It's weird, but really enjoyable. We are keeping him home for another year so he will start Kindergarten when he is 6. We feel good about that and there are a lot of good reasons for it. Namely: size, hopefully more mature and ready to learn, then later on first to drive, first to date, and right on his mission when he graduates. All great reasons, but if we hadn't prayed and gotten the answer that it was right he would be out the door.

His birthday was last Sunday, July 6th. I locked our door, since Sunday is really the only day we get to sleep in, so that Dylan couldn't come in at 6am to tell us it was his birthday. At 9 he finally knocked on the door to tell us. We gave him his presents then. He received a Nintendo DS and Super Mario Bros. He knew he was getting the DS, but you can see from his reaction how excited he was about the game.

That night we had our most successful turn out of family to celebrate with us. We felt very lucky and Dylan felt very loved.

One family that couldn't attend sent those smoking snake firework things. We did those later with some cousins that were still around. It was a great day and I think Dylan is very happy to be 5. I am so crazy in love with him. I adore all my kids, but the youngest thing just can't be helped.

Happy birthday Dylan! Elijah is sitting on my lap and said, "Look, he's one of the Incredibles!"
wow - that is amazing.
I have been thinking about the youngest thing, too. It is sort of sad that the others had to grow up faster. But, what do you do? Somebody has to be oldest, and somebody has to be youngest. And that's just the way it is. Right?
Weird that if Nathan starts school when he's 5 (which remains to be seen), then they would be in the same grade! I had no idea your baby was only a year older than mine. I missed that somehow.
Anyway - Happy Birthday Dylan! :)
oh, I worded that wrong. Not that your baby is a year older than my baby (that's not true) - but that your baby is a year older than my boy (2nd to youngest). Whatever.
Carter says "Happy Birthday ODylan!" It is hard to see them grow up so fast. Now you know what I've been going through the last couple years seeing my baby get so old! I keep singing that song from The Heffalump Movie that says as I sing it "Little Carter roo reaching for the moon, don't grow up too fast, too soon! Leave some time, fir dreaming." Love that song.
I can't believe Dylan is already 5 It sounds like he had a wonderful birthday. Happy Birthday Dylan!!!
Oh, them youngest do just melt your heart. They also get away with MUCH more than the others.
